Today we’re looking at 24 things that you can declutter before 2025 to simplify your life and home! These are all common household items (that most of us have lurking in our homes) that you can easily get rid of with no regrets!

Today, I want to share with you a list of 24 things you should consider getting rid of before 2024. As we approach the final months of the year, now is the perfect time to simplify your life and declutter your home. This period, nestled between the end of summer and the start of the holiday season, provides an ideal window to edit your space. By paring down unnecessary items, you not only create a more peaceful, inviting environment but also prepare for the busy holiday season, making room for the inevitable influx of gifts and activities. More importantly, decluttering can help transform your home into a restful space where you can truly relax.

Let’s begin with something simple: expired food in your fridge and pantry. As the holidays approach, with them comes the joy of homemade meals, cozy gatherings, and delicious food. However, to fully enjoy this season, it’s essential to deep clean your fridge, freezer, and pantry. Take the time to discard any expired or disliked food items, condense duplicates, and ensure that your shelves are clean and ready for holiday storage. This simple task not only frees up space but also makes cooking and storing food during the holidays far more enjoyable.

Next, it’s time to part ways with dead or dying plants. While many of us love plants, sometimes they’ve just reached the end of their lifecycle. Whether it’s indoor plants that have seen better days or outdoor annuals that didn’t survive the season, decluttering them now clears space for fresh, thriving greenery in the future. Similarly, editing your first aid supplies can also be surprisingly rewarding. Often, we accumulate too many of certain items while lacking essentials, and outdated supplies tend to clutter these kits. Go through your first aid cabinet, discard expired items, and restock for the upcoming cold and flu season.

Seasonal décor is another area ripe for decluttering. If you’ve skipped over certain holiday decorations for a year or more, now is a great time to let them go. Focus on keeping only the items you truly love and use year after year. Additionally, decluttering your digital life is equally important. Take stock of your social media apps, games, and other platforms that are no longer serving you. If certain apps eat away at your time without adding value, consider deleting them to free up both mental space and productivity.

On a more practical note, old bedding, towels, and worn-out shoes should be next on your decluttering list. Pare down any threadbare linens and donate them to local shelters. While you’re at it, assess your shoe collection for any uncomfortable or worn-out pairs. Shoes that no longer serve you—whether due to discomfort or wear—can often be recycled or replaced with more practical options, perhaps even added to your holiday wishlist.

Don’t overlook the smaller areas, like junk drawers or old greeting cards. Tidying up these spaces can bring immediate satisfaction and create a more organized living environment. Similarly, if you’re holding on to hobby supplies for activities you no longer engage in, it may be time to let those items go. Ask yourself whether that hobby still brings you joy, and if not, make room for something new.

As you work through these categories, remember that even everyday items like plastic bags, undergarments, and cleaning supplies can accumulate unnecessarily. Declutter any excess and ensure that what you keep is functional and in good condition. Moving on to larger items, consider getting rid of old electronics and kitchen appliances that you no longer use. These tend to take up significant space, and if they’re not part of your daily life, freeing up room in your home can feel incredibly liberating.

Lastly, a huge source of clutter can be found in unused subscriptions. Go through your billing statements and cancel any subscriptions you no longer use. This not only saves space but can also save you money. And finally, don’t forget to follow through on removing the items you’ve decluttered. Too often, we gather things to donate or discard but leave them sitting in bags for months. Now is the time to take action and fully clear your space before the new year begins.

By decluttering these 24 areas, you’ll create a more peaceful, organized, and inviting home just in time for the new year. What are some things you plan to let go of before 2025? Let me know in the comments below, and don’t forget to like and subscribe for more helpful tips!
