Norway has captured my heart, and I’m thrilled to share why I’m absolutely in love with my life here. From stunning landscapes to a unique cultural mindset, here are my top 10 reasons why living in Norway is a dream come true.
1. My Dream Job
I work at an incredible organization called Unknos, part of JA Worldwide, in a role that doesn’t exist in my home country. This job is a perfect blend of office and non-office work, allowing me to work from home sometimes with flexible hours. It’s fulfilling, dynamic, and keeps me away from a screen all day, which I absolutely love.
2. Our Dream Home
We built our dream home here in Norway, with a breathtaking view I couldn’t find anywhere else. The country’s landscapes are stunning, offering countless beautiful places to live. Waking up to Norway’s natural beauty every day is a privilege.
3. Amazing Kindergartens
Norway’s kindergartens are exceptional, with a high staff-to-child ratio ensuring kids have an incredible time. The quality of early education here is unmatched, making it an ideal place to start a family. The schools are fantastic too, but the kindergartens truly stand out.
4. Warm, Down-to-Earth People
Norwegians are kind, warm, and refreshingly non-materialistic. Their down-to-earth mindset is inspiring, and I believe Hans Nilson, a historical figure, played a significant role in shaping this. He traveled across Norway, encouraging entrepreneurship and empowering women in leadership roles. Nilson also pioneered kindergartens and hospitals before the state, leaving a lasting legacy. 5. Endless Fun Activities
Norway is a paradise for sports lovers like me. From climbing and rafting to skiing, canoeing, and kayaking, there’s no shortage of thrilling activities. There’s even “dutsing,” a Norwegian invention where people jump off cliffs (20–30 meters high), performing tricks before landing in the water. It’s now a global phenomenon, and I love the active lifestyle Norway offers.
6. The Spirit of “Dugnut”
The Norwegian concept of “dugnut” means volunteer work, often organized in communities or even at home. It reflects the warm, collaborative spirit of Norwegians, who come together to get things done. This sense of community is heartwarming and one of the reasons I feel so connected here.
7. Less Focus on Food, More on Nature
Unlike my home country, where food dominates social life, Norway prioritizes being out in nature. This shift in focus aligns perfectly with my love for the outdoors, making everyday life feel refreshing and balanced.
8. Vibrant Camping Culture
Norway’s camping lifestyle is unbeatable. As a camping enthusiast, I love packing up the camper for long weekends or holidays (known as “red days”) and heading to stunning locations. It’s a cozy way to meet new people, go hiking, and soak in the beauty of Norway’s landscapes.
9. A Culture of Helping
Norwegians genuinely love helping others. Whether you have a flat tire or find yourself in trouble, people here are trustworthy and quick to lend a hand. This sense of reliability and kindness makes living here feel safe and welcoming.
10. Valuing a Simple Life
Perhaps my favorite reason is Norway’s emphasis on a simple, fulfilling life, especially in the countryside. Money and career take a backseat to family, self-sufficiency, and helping each other. These core values resonate deeply with me and make Norway the perfect place to call home.
Final Thoughts
Living in Norway has been an incredible journey, and I hope these reasons give you a glimpse into why I love it so much. It’s a beautiful country with a unique culture that I’d choose over anywhere else (sorry, Denmark!).
